Idols.

There.

Yesterday’s service was about worship and idols.

Exodus 20:4-5 KJV

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Idols are simply things that are first before God, even if they are something good. The satisfaction we get will never last, it is only temporal gratification.

It leads to addictions. And nowadays, addiction is everywhere. You can get addicted to alcohol and drugs, you can get addicted to other things as well. Facebook for one.

We shape what we idolize, at the same time, we shape ourselves as well. What we worship will become us. If we worship Jesus, then will we become Christlike. True?

What is it that we need to put away?

And sometimes what we idolized aren’t things that we can touch, intangible things. Mental idols, what can we do about those?

The thing is that the God we worship isn’t one that we can physically touch. There are people who have charms or talismans or crystal balls. If you restrict God to a single object, you will end up treating God like a single object being at a single place at a time. You bring it to church on a sunday, but you leave it at home for the remaining days of the week. What do you think?

Imagine 50 bucks. You can use it all up in a single day, like it is nothing, like it isn’t a big value, that it is not enough. But when you offer it to God, it suddenly feels like it’s a big amount, is it not?

That’s all I’ll post for now. More coming up later.

God bless. ♥
